What is the difference between Flash (Jay Garrick) and Flash Gordon? Are are the two related?
They both appear to have the same logo, but a different story line. What is the deal with these two characters? Is one a spin-off of the other or something?
Jay Garrick was a superhero that could run at superhuman speeds. Flash Gordon was a normal human that travelled to another planet and became a hero after defeating a villain named Ming. The two are in no way related.
I'm pretty sure that neither one of them is a spinoff of the other. Flash Gordon was created in 1934 as a spinoff of Buck Rogers, and he was actually created to compete with Buck Rogers' own comic strip. Flash was created in 1940 and is more of a spinoff of Superman's superspeed (lots of early superheroes had powers that were "borrowed" from Superman's at the time). The names and similar logos were most likely just coincidences.
